01The promise

Inkwell is a tool you should want to open every morning. If it is not, we do not want your money.

Ask within 14 days of any first payment on a plan and we will refund it in full — no forms, no exit interview. One email is enough. This guarantee applies to your first paid subscription on Folio or Studio, monthly or annual.

Everything below explains the edges: renewals, upgrades, annual plans, and the handful of things we cannot refund. This policy is part of our Terms of Service.

✳

Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law. See Statutory rights.

02Free plan and trials

The Sketch plan is free forever and needs no card. Use it as long as you like.

Paid plans may include a 14-day free trial. During the trial you are not charged. We email you before the trial ends. If you cancel before the last day, no payment is taken and there is nothing to refund.

!

If you forget to cancel and get charged for a plan you never used, tell us — we will refund it. That is not a loophole; it is the point.

03Monthly subscriptions

Your first month

Covered by the 14-day guarantee. Ask within 14 days of the charge and you get the whole month back.

Renewals

Monthly renewals are not automatically refundable, because you can cancel any time and the most you can ever be out is one month. Cancel from Settings → Billing; your plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, and it does not renew again.

That said, if a renewal charge caught you off guard and you had not used Inkwell that month, write to us. We look at usage, and if the account was quiet we refund it. This is discretionary, and we apply it generously.

04Annual subscriptions

Annual plans are billed up front at a discount. Two windows apply:

When you askWhat you getApplies to
Within 14 daysFull refund of the yearFirst annual purchase
Day 15 to day 30Pro-rata refund of unused whole months, at the monthly rateFirst annual purchase
Within 14 days of an annual renewalFull refund of the renewalEvery renewal, every year
After day 30 of a termNo refund; plan stays active to the end of the termAll annual plans

Pro-rata refunds are calculated on whole unused months, valued at the standard monthly price for your plan — so the months you did use are charged at the monthly rate, not the discounted annual one.

05Upgrades, downgrades and proration

Upgrading

Upgrade mid-term and we charge only the difference, prorated for the days remaining. The upgrade takes effect immediately.

Downgrading

Downgrade and the change applies at the start of your next billing period. We do not refund the difference for the current period, but you keep the higher plan until it ends.

Switching monthly to annual

The unused remainder of your current month is credited against the annual price. Switching annual to monthly takes effect at the next renewal.

Adding collaborators

Seats added mid-term are prorated. Seats removed mid-term free up at the next renewal; we do not refund a removed seat for the current period.

06How to request a refund

There is no form. Email us and a person reads it.

  1. Write to thekodevs@gmail.com from the address on the account.
  2. Tell us the plan and roughly when you were charged. The invoice number helps but is not required — we can find it.
  3. Tell us why, if you feel like it. It is genuinely optional, and it genuinely makes the product better.

We acknowledge within 1 business day and approve or explain within 5 business days. Refunding does not cancel your subscription automatically — say so if you want both, and we will handle it in one go.

07How refunds are paid

  • Refunds go back to the original payment method. We cannot send them anywhere else.
  • We issue the refund immediately on approval. Your bank then takes 5 to 10 business days to post it — that part is out of our hands.
  • Refunds are made in the currency you were charged in. We do not cover losses from exchange-rate movement between the charge and the refund.
  • Taxes collected on the original charge are refunded with it.
  • If the card is closed, your bank will normally route the refund to its replacement. If it cannot, contact your bank first, then us.

08What we cannot refund

To be straight with you, these are the exceptions:

  • Subscription periods that ended more than 30 days ago, outside the windows above.
  • Accounts terminated for a serious breach of the acceptable use rules.
  • Repeat refund requests on the same account — the guarantee is designed to be used once, in good faith.
  • Charges from third parties you connected to Inkwell, such as an integration's own subscription.
  • Downtime that falls within normal maintenance, or an outage caused by something outside our control.

Even here, ask. If your situation is genuinely unusual — a bereavement, a business that folded, a charge you truly did not authorise — we would rather hear about it than have you assume the answer is no.

09Failed payments and price changes

When a payment fails

We retry a failed charge over 14 days and email you each time. If it never clears, the workspace drops to the free Sketch plan. Nothing is deleted — your content is preserved and comes back the moment you pay. Paid features are simply paused.

When prices change

We give at least 30 days' notice before a price change touches your renewal. If a renewal is charged at a new price you did not want, ask within 14 days and we refund it in full. See Plans and billing.

10Chargebacks

Please email us before disputing a charge with your bank. A chargeback costs us a fee and takes months to resolve; a refund takes us about a minute, and you get your money sooner.

Accounts with an open chargeback are suspended until it is resolved. If a chargeback is filed for a charge we would have refunded anyway, we will not hold it against you — just talk to us at thekodevs@gmail.com.

11Your statutory rights

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days without giving any reason. By starting to use Inkwell immediately after purchase you ask us to begin supplying the service during that period; you keep the right to withdraw, and we may charge for what you actually used before you did. In practice we do not — we refund the whole amount.

Consumers elsewhere — including under Australian Consumer Law and comparable regimes — keep every right their local law grants them. Nothing in this policy limits, excludes or modifies those rights, and where our policy is less generous than the law, the law wins.
